Airbnb Moves Beyond Stays With Car Rentals and Grocery Delivery

Airbnb has announced a major summer expansion that moves the platform beyond short-term home rentals and deeper into the wider travel business, adding services such as grocery delivery, airport pickups, luggage storage, car rentals, boutique hotels and FIFA World Cup 2026 experiences.
The new grocery option, offered through Instacart, lets guests order groceries during a trip or have them waiting at their Airbnb when they arrive. However, the service is currently available in more than 25 U.S. cities only, an important detail for Canadian travelers who may assume the feature is broadly available everywhere.
Airbnb is also adding airport pickups through Welcome Pickups in more than 160 cities worldwide, and luggage storage through Bounce at more than 15,000 locations in 175 cities. These services target a common travel problem: what guests do before check-in or after checkout when they still have hours to spend in a city.
Car rentals are expected to roll out inside the Airbnb app later this summer. The feature will show vehicles near a guest’s listing and suggest cars based on group size. Airbnb says nearly a quarter of its guests rent a car during their stay, making the move a clear attempt to keep more of the travel budget inside its own platform.
The company is also expanding into boutique and independent hotels, adding thousands of selected properties in 20 major destinations, including New York, Paris, London, Madrid, Rome and Singapore. Airbnb says the hotels will focus on neighborhood location, design and hospitality rather than large chain properties.
The timing also connects to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Airbnb offering exclusive experiences tied to the tournament across selected host cities. For travelers in Canada, the key takeaway is practical: Airbnb may become more useful for trip planning, but users should still check where each service is available and read the offer terms carefully before booking.
