The Government of British Columbia says it has appointed former RCMP officer Paul Dadwal to chair a new Community Advisory Group on Extortion, designed to strengthen communications and trust between affected communities and law enforcement.
In official statements, Premier David Eby and Public Safety Minister Nina Krieger said the group will listen to community concerns, flag emerging issues, and relay them to police and government, while also helping improve how information flows from investigators to the public.
Global News reported the move comes amid ongoing extortion threats and violence affecting businesses and neighbourhoods in the Lower Mainland, with the province emphasizing improved reporting pathways and clearer, more consistent messaging alongside enforcement efforts
