Canada’s 2026 payroll updates: higher EI ceiling and revised CPP/CPP2 contribution limits

Key 2026 payroll changes are now in effect across Canada, updating Employment Insurance (EI) and Canada Pension Plan (CPP) contribution ceilings and maximum annual amounts for employees and employers, especially for higher-income earners.
For EI, the maximum insurable earnings rose to $68,900. Outside Quebec, the employee premium rate is $1.63 per $100, with a maximum annual employee premium of $1,123.07. In Quebec, the employee rate is $1.30 per $100, with a maximum annual employee premium of $895.70.
For CPP, the 2026 YMPE is $74,600 with a $3,500 basic exemption. The base employee/employer rate remains 5.95%, with a maximum annual contribution of $4,230.45 each. A second additional contribution (CPP2) applies to earnings above YMPE up to the additional ceiling (YAMPE $85,000), at 4.00%, with a maximum CPP2 contribution of $416.00 each for employees and employers.
