Canada food recalls: chia seeds over Salmonella, psyllium powder flagged for insects

Federal authorities in Canada issued a food recall warning for Left Coast Organics Organic Chia Seeds due to possible Salmonella contamination, advising consumers not to use or consume the product and to return it or dispose of it.
The official notice, last updated January 20, 2026, lists 900 g packages with UPC 6 25691 21034 9 and best before codes 26 NO 13 and 26 NO 14, with distribution noted in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.
In a separate notice last updated January 21, 2026, authorities warned that Foodsquirrel Organic Psyllium Husk Powder is being recalled due to the presence of insects, with distribution listed as online. Affected items include 113 g and 454 g packages with code EX31DE27_FS1139, as well as an unbranded 25 kg product (Internal lot code: #FS1139, Lot number: GF/OPHP/5702/25).
Officials noted that ongoing food safety investigations can expand and may lead to additional recalls if needed
