The Canadian government has renewed its travel warning for areas near the Thailand–Cambodia border, citing ongoing security concerns despite the ceasefire agreement signed on December 27, 2025.
In its latest update published on January 21, 2026, Global Affairs Canada cautioned that the security situation remains "unpredictable and unstable," with potential risks such as landmines and unexploded ordnance in border regions. The advisory also warned that sudden military or police restrictions—including curfews and crossing closures—could be imposed without notice.
The travel warning emphasizes that, while diplomatic efforts have led to a ceasefire, the effects of past hostilities and residual threats still warrant a high degree of caution for anyone traveling near the region. Travellers are urged to avoid all non-essential trips to the Thai–Cambodian border areas.
This update reflects Canada’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad through proactive travel advice in response to global developments
