Chinese ambassador: No official decision yet on Canadian visa exemption

China’s ambassador to Ottawa has cast doubt on Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s statement that Chinese authorities would waive visa requirements for Canadian citizens, clarifying that no formal decision has been made.
Carney, during an official visit to Beijing, had announced a potential visa waiver as part of renewed diplomatic efforts to improve ties. However, the Chinese envoy stated that such a move remains under internal review in Beijing and has not been formally adopted as government policy.
Until an official notice is issued by Chinese authorities, the current visa system remains in place. The issue is part of broader discussions on boosting travel and trade relations, but no final agreement has yet been reached
