Documents that may help expedite your immigration process

IRCC guidance indicates that “urgent processing” may be considered only in limited, well-documented situations. It is discretionary, assessed case-by-case, and not guaranteed even when supporting documents are provided.
What most strengthens an urgent request is not the request itself, but clear evidence of a non-negotiable deadline and the harm that would result from delays.
Key documents that typically strengthen an urgent request include:
- Proof of a firm deadline (official letters with dates)
- Employer or institution letters explaining why the status is required
- Medical or humanitarian documentation (hospital/medical letters, death certificates where relevant)
- Court/legal documents with hearing dates or custody requirements
- Travel proof tied to an urgent reason (not tourism)
- File identifiers (UCI, application number, submission/payment confirmations)
