Canadians are returning to U.S. travel as cross-border traffic picks up

Travel between Canada and the United States is regaining momentum, with more Canadians heading south of the border while U.S. visits to Canada are also rising.
Canadian residents returned from about 2.83 million trips to the United States in July, up 10.1% from a year earlier. It marked the fourth consecutive month of year-over-year growth following 15 straight months of declines.
Much of the rebound came through land crossings, with automobile trips rising 12.6%. Air travel increased only 0.6%, but that was its first year-over-year increase since August 2023.
Travel is also strengthening in the opposite direction. Canada received about 3.55 million U.S. visitors in July, an increase of 9.1% compared with July 2025 and the sixth consecutive month of annual growth.
Despite the rebound, Canadian trips to the United States remained 25.6% below July 2024 levels, suggesting cross-border travel is recovering from last year’s sharp decline but has yet to return to previous levels.
