Carlington Community Health Centre (CCHC) hosted a Newcomer Community Information Session in Ottawa on Thursday, August 27, 2026, giving participants an opportunity to learn about available services and resources and connect directly with local organizations serving individuals and families.
The event featured information tables from the Nepean, Rideau and Osgoode Community Resource Centre (NROCRC) and La Cité College, where attendees could learn more about programs, services and opportunities available in the community and speak directly with representatives from the participating organizations.
The session also provided newcomers with a welcoming space to ask questions, discover local resources and build connections with organizations working across health, education and community services.
A winter clothing initiative was also part of the event, with members of the community contributing donated items in a spirit of cooperation and shared support as the colder season approaches.
At the close of the gathering, a number of donated winter clothing items were presented to Debra Dynes Family House, extending the community impact of the initiative through the local organization.
Organizers expressed their appreciation to everyone who participated and contributed to the event, noting that the gathering created an opportunity to exchange information, build relationships and strengthen connections between newcomers and local institutions.
The event highlighted the value of direct community engagement in making services easier to understand and access, particularly for newcomers who are becoming familiar with the programs and organizations available to them in Ottawa.
