Airstrikes hit Houthi-controlled positions in Sanaa, Taiz, Amran and Ibb on Sunday, marking a new escalation one day after the attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport killed 12 people and injured 309.
Houthi-run media attributed strikes in Sanaa, Amran and Ibb to Saudi aircraft, while Yemeni field sources reported attacks on Houthi positions, gatherings and vehicles in Taiz. Saudi authorities had not, at the time of writing, publicly confirmed responsibility for all of the reported strikes or provided a detailed list of targets.
In Taiz, the airstrikes coincided with continuing clashes between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis on several fronts. Field reports said Houthi fighters were killed and wounded, but no independently verified casualty toll was immediately available.
The Saudi-led coalition had vowed a “firm” response to Saturday’s attack on a passenger terminal at King Khalid International Airport, describing it as a war crime and saying any response would comply with international humanitarian law and the rules of warfare.
The latest strikes follow an intensified campaign against Houthi military capabilities. On Friday, the coalition said it had destroyed 136 military targets in Houthi-controlled areas, including sites linked to ballistic missiles, while providing round-the-clock air support to Yemeni government forces.
The Houthis, meanwhile, renewed their warnings on Sunday against using Saudi airports and airspace, as fighting continues to expand both inside Yemen and across the Saudi border.
