President Donald Trump announced on Friday, October 9, 2026, that conservative commentator and communications adviser Katie Zacharia will become the new White House press secretary, succeeding Karoline Leavitt, who stepped down in August.

Zacharia has been working as a communications adviser at Trump Media & Technology Group and has previously appeared as a conservative commentator, with experience at Fox News and Newsmax as well as in Republican political communications.

Trump announced the appointment on Truth Social, praising Zacharia’s loyalty and abilities. Zacharia thanked the president for the appointment and said she looked forward to communicating the administration’s agenda and record to the public.

Leavitt left the White House on August 27, 2026, after serving as press secretary since the beginning of Trump’s second term in January 2025. She was the youngest person ever to hold the position.

Her departure followed the birth of her second child, and Fox News subsequently announced that she would join the network as an on-air contributor beginning November 1.
