Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi launched a biometric fingerprint service for Lebanese passports at the Embassy of Lebanon in Washington, a move aimed at making passport procedures easier and less costly for Lebanese citizens living abroad.

The service allows eligible Lebanese residents in the United States to complete the biometric procedures required for passport applications without having to travel to Lebanon, reducing travel, waiting times and administrative burdens.

Raggi said the initiative is part of the Foreign Ministry’s efforts to modernize consular services and bring government services closer to Lebanese communities abroad.

Speaking at the embassy, he said Lebanese expatriates remain an integral part of the country and stressed that protecting their rights and dignity abroad is a core responsibility of the state.

Raggi also noted his personal connection to the embassy, where he was in charge of political affairs between 1995 and 1999, according to his official Foreign Ministry biography.

Lebanon’s General Security had earlier announced that its technical team equipped the embassy in Washington and the Consulate General in Detroit with the systems required to receive biometric passport applications. Applications in the United States began being accepted on September 21, 2026.

During his visit to the embassy, Raggi also met Lebanese journalists based in Washington and discussed his meetings with U.S. officials and Lebanon’s diplomatic priorities.
