FIFA said on October 9 that human reviewers had verified about 240,000 abusive posts and comments connected with the 2026 World Cup through its Social Media Protection Service.
More than 17 million posts and comments were scanned, with about 477,000 sent to analysts for review.
The tournament report covers monitoring from June 9 to July 20 on X, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. It tracked 1,606 players, coaches, coaching staff and match officials. Of those, 812 received at least one abusive message, more than half the monitored individuals.
A separate moderation tool scanned 60.7 million comments on official FIFA and participating associations’ channels, hiding 9.2 million. That total includes spam, bot-like behaviour and harmful content, so it is not a count of verified abuse.
FIFA also said 786 accounts were referred to law enforcement for review.
