Qatar pushes 2036 Olympic bid from Nagoya as Al-Kuwari says Games should leave a lasting legacy

Qatar has used a platform in Japan to reinforce its bid to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games, stressing that its ambition goes beyond staging the world’s biggest sporting event to creating a legacy that lasts long after the competitions end.
Speaking during a discussion at “Qatar House” in Nagoya on the sidelines of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, Fatma Sultan Al-Kuwari, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar’s 2036 Olympic and Paralympic bid, said Doha wants to deliver an exceptional Games experience whose impact extends well beyond the event itself.
Al-Kuwari said Qatar is building its bid around the experience gained from hosting major international sporting events, most notably the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as well as its existing sports venues and infrastructure.
She said relying on facilities that are already in place could reduce the need for new permanent construction while supporting the International Olympic Committee’s focus on sustainability and long-term venue use.
Doha also sees the bid as an opportunity to bring the Olympic movement to a region that has never hosted the Summer Games, potentially giving millions of people across the Middle East direct access to the Olympic experience.
Qatar’s bid remains in the International Olympic Committee’s Continuous Dialogue phase, during which interested hosts discuss their vision, capacity and Games requirements with the IOC before any later stage of the host selection process.
