Morocco's men's national team will open its campaign at the 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships against host nation Canada on Wednesday, September 9, in Ottawa, one of the marquee matchups on the tournament's opening day. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. local time at The Arena at TD Place.
The World Championships, running from September 9 to 19, will bring together 336 athletes representing 28 national teams from around the world. The field includes 16 men's teams and 12 women's teams competing over 11 days in the Canadian capital.
Morocco and Canada were drawn together in Men's Group D alongside Germany and Iran, setting up an important opening test for both teams as they begin their pursuit of a place in the knockout rounds. Morocco secured its place at the World Championships through African qualification.
Canada's women's national team will also begin its tournament on September 9, facing Spain at 4:15 p.m., before the Canadian men's team takes the court against Morocco later that evening. Championship games will be played at The Arena at TD Place and Carleton University.
The tournament will also help determine how many qualifications spots each international zone receives for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games. Canada has selected 24 athletes across its men's and women's national teams for the home World Championships.
Games will also be streamed through the official YouTube channels of Wheelchair Basketball Canada and the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation.
