Al-Azhar, one of the Muslim world's leading religious institutions, has called for the establishment of an urgent mediation committee comprising representatives from Arab and Islamic countries to help resolve ongoing regional conflicts and prevent further loss of life.

In a statement issued Sunday, Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb urged regional leaders to prioritize dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful solutions over continued hostilities, warning of the human and economic consequences of armed conflict.

The proposed committee would bring together respected figures from across the Arab and Islamic world to facilitate dialogue, reduce tensions and seek negotiated solutions to disputes.

Al-Azhar expressed its willingness to support the initiative and encouraged the parties concerned to overcome their differences in the interests of regional stability and civilian protection.

The statement did not announce the committee's establishment or identify its prospective members, operating structure or timeline.
