The number of young people aged 15 to 24 employed in Canada fell by about 48,000 in September 2026, a second monthly decline, Statistics Canada reported on October 9. The figures are seasonally adjusted.
Across August and September, youth employment fell by around 67,000, wiping out the gains recorded between April and July.
Youth unemployment remained little changed at 13% while the youth labour force shrank by about 50,000. The rate measures unemployment against the combined employed and unemployed population, rather than all young people.
Nationally, total employment fell by roughly 68,000 in September, while the unemployment rate rose from 6.4% to 6.5%.
