Abdullatif Al Shaikh, President of the Canada Arab Congress, honoured Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Lena Metlege Diab at a dinner in Ottawa on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Hosted by the Congress at the Rideau Club, the evening celebrated Canada’s relations with the Middle East and North Africa and the connections between their communities.
Guests included a number of Arab ambassadors, among them the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Sudan, Yemen and Tunisia. Canadian government representatives and Arab community leaders also attended, joining conversations about the ties linking their countries and communities.
Reflecting on the honour, Diab said it had particular personal significance as the daughter of Lebanese immigrants. She welcomed the opportunity to spend the evening with ambassadors, community leaders and friends and to discuss the relationships they share.
Diab thanked the Canada Arab Congress for the recognition and its continuing efforts to bring communities together. Her remarks connected the evening’s celebration of international and community ties with her own Lebanese family roots.
