Hyundai is recalling thousands of Elantra Hybrid vehicles in Canada after identifying a potential issue in the hybrid power control unit that could cause overheating and increase the risk of fire. The recall covers 2024, 2025, and 2026 model-year Elantra Hybrid vehicles.
According to The Car Guide, the recall affects approximately 6,000 vehicles in Canada, in addition to more than 54,000 vehicles in the United States. Hyundai says no related fires, incidents, or injuries have been reported in Canada so far.
The issue involves the Hybrid Power Control Unit, or HPCU, which manages electrical power in the hybrid system. U.S. recall documents cited by industry reports say a component inside the unit can overheat under high electrical loads, potentially causing thermal damage and increasing the risk of fire.
Drivers may notice warning signs such as a malfunction indicator light, a failure to start, or reduced-power driving mode. Hyundai will notify affected owners and ask them to schedule a dealer appointment for a free HPCU software update.
Hyundai Canada advises owners to check whether their vehicle is affected by using the VIN recall tool for vehicles retailed in Canada.
