NASA announced it will bring SpaceX’s Crew-11 mission back to Earth earlier than planned as teams monitor a medical concern affecting one crewmember on the International Space Station. The agency said the astronaut is in stable condition and it will not release further details due to medical privacy.
NASA and SpaceX are targeting no earlier than 5:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, for Crew-11’s Dragon spacecraft to undock, with a splashdown off the coast of California planned for about 3:40 a.m. ET on Thursday, January 15, pending weather, sea states, and recovery readiness.
Reuters reported the move marks the first emergency medical return in the ISS program’s roughly 25-year history, with NASA officials saying the crew is coming home early because full diagnostic and treatment capability is not available aboard the station.
Crew-11 includes NASA astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke, JAXA astronaut Kimiya Yui, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Platonov. NASA has not identified which crewmember is affected.
