New food recall alerts issued in recent days in the United States and Canada have put consumer safety back in focus, covering a chocolate product tied to an undeclared allergen, prepared meal kits linked to a possible Salmonella risk, and a food item distributed in parts of Canada.
In the United States, Lidl US recalled all lots of Favorina Chocolate Ladybugs - German-Style Nougat, 3.52 oz, UPC 20304492, because of undeclared hazelnut. According to the FDA-posted company notice, the product was distributed between January 28 and March 11, 2026, across Lidl stores in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. No illnesses had been reported at the time of the notice, and customers were told not to consume the product and to return it for a full refund.
In a separate U.S. recall, Costco pulled select sell-by dates of Item #30783, Meatloaf with Mashed Yukon Potatoes and Glaze, after supplier Griffith Foods Inc. recalled an ingredient used in the meatloaf component over possible Salmonella contamination. The affected products carry sell-by dates from March 5 through March 16, 2026, and were sold between March 2 and March 13 in multiple U.S. states, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Costco said no injuries or illnesses had been reported and advised customers not to eat the item and to return it for a full refund.
In Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency warned consumers not to use, sell, serve, or distribute Katilo brand Classic Roomy, 200 g, UPC 6 223004 833045, code Pro 04 FEB 2026 and Epx 03 FEB 2027, because of possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled product was distributed in New Brunswick, Ontario, and Quebec. CFIA said the recall was triggered by agency test results and that no illnesses had been reported at the time of the update. Consumers were told to throw the product out or return it to the place of purchase.
The latest notices underline a recurring food safety concern for consumers on both sides of the border, especially when undeclared allergens or possible bacterial contamination are involved.
