The Canada Revenue Agency says March 2, 2026 is the deadline to make RRSP contributions that can be deducted on a 2025 income tax and benefit return.
The CRA notes RRSP deduction room is generally based on 18% of prior-year earned income, up to the annual dollar limit, which is $32,490 for 2025, with unused room carried forward and other adjustments affecting each filer’s personal limit.
The agency also advises taxpayers to report contributions on Schedule 7 when filing, even if they choose to carry forward all or part of the deduction to a future year.
CRA warns that overcontributions beyond a $2,000 buffer may trigger a 1% per month tax on the excess until corrected.
