A new survey found that 43% of Canadians said they are less likely to vacation in the United States in 2026 than they were last year, while 38% said they do not generally vacation in the U.S. at all, according to Nanos Research polling reported by Travelweek on March 13.
The survey also found that 14% said their likelihood of travelling to the United States had not changed from last year, while only 4% said they were more likely to travel there in 2026. Another 2% said they were unsure. The polling was conducted from March 1 to March 8, 2026.
The findings came alongside official data showing an actual slowdown in cross-border travel. Statistics Canada said Canadian-resident return trips from the United States by air fell 17.6% year over year in February 2026, while return trips by automobile dropped 12.9%.
Statistics Canada also reported that air return trips from the United States fell to 482,765 in February 2026 from 585,663 a year earlier, while automobile return trips declined to 1,014,467 from 1,164,526.
