Teen killed in shooting inside Tim Hortons, raising renewed concerns over urban safety

A teenage boy has died after being shot inside a Tim Hortons restaurant in Scarborough, Toronto, in an incident that has reignited public debate over gun violence and community safety in urban neighbourhoods, particularly those frequented by families and students.
According to CityNews, Toronto police were called to the area of Lawrence Avenue East and Bellamy Road North at around 4:09 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2026, following reports of gunfire inside the coffee shop. Officers located a 16-year-old boy suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police confirmed that no employees or customers inside the Tim Hortons were physically injured during the incident. The victim’s identity was released later in the evening, and the investigation has since been taken over by the Toronto Police Service Homicide Unit.
As of the latest update published by CityNews, investigators had not announced any arrests or provided a confirmed suspect description, noting that the inquiry remains active. Detectives are canvassing the area for witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and traffic cameras.
