Reuters reported that Bloomberg News, citing people familiar with the matter, said U.S. President Donald Trump is privately considering withdrawing the United States from the USMCA trade pact, the agreement he negotiated during his first term.

Reuters said it could not immediately verify Bloomberg’s report, but the possibility adds uncertainty ahead of pivotal talks with Canada and Mexico as the agreement heads into its formal review window.

Under the deal, the three countries must launch a joint review by July 1, 2026, to confirm whether they intend to renew the pact for another 16 years or pursue changes. The treaty text also provides that any party may withdraw by written notice, with withdrawal taking effect six months after notice is given.
