Air Canada Introduces $30 Fee for Booking Flights by Phone

Booking an Air Canada flight by phone now comes with an additional charge, as the airline introduces a non-refundable $30 fee per passenger, plus applicable taxes, effective October 15, 2026.
The charge applies to new reservations completed with an agent through Air Canada's contact centre. A family of four booking together would pay an extra $120 before taxes, while customers making the same reservation on the airline's website or mobile app would avoid the fee entirely.
Air Canada says the policy is intended to move routine bookings to its digital channels, reducing call centre wait times and freeing agents to handle more complex requests. Telephone booking fees already apply to Aeroplan reward flights, and that arrangement remains unchanged.
There are exceptions. Travellers requiring accessibility assistance or other specialized support will not be charged. Passengers contacting the airline about an existing trip disrupted by delays, cancellations or other operational problems are also exempt. The new fee does not apply simply because someone calls to ask about an existing reservation.
Customers experiencing problems booking online can still contact an agent, although Air Canada says the fee may apply depending on the circumstances. The charge appears separately on the receipt and is not refunded if the reservation is subsequently cancelled.
