Canada’s foreign minister Anita Anand is in Washington for a ministerial meeting focused on strengthening international cooperation on critical minerals supply chains, as the U.S. pushes partners to diversify away from China’s dominance in processing and supply.

According to Canadian reporting citing The Canadian Press, the gathering is being hosted at the U.S. State Department. U.S. Vice President JD Vance outlined a proposal for a preferential critical-minerals trade zone that would include price-floor mechanisms to spur investment and stabilize supply.

The meeting underscores intensifying competition over inputs essential to advanced manufacturing, clean-energy technologies, and defence supply chains, with Washington seeking common rules and coordinated incentives among allied countries.
