Benefit cheques and government payments coming in Canada in April and May 2026

Many households across Canada are preparing for a new round of government payments in April and May 2026 as cost-of-living pressure continues to weigh on monthly budgets, especially for families, seniors, and people with disabilities. According to the federal government’s official payment calendar, the upcoming dates include major programs such as the GST/HST credit, the Canada Child Benefit, the Canada Pension Plan, and Old Age Security, along with selected provincial and targeted supports.
In April, the key dates begin with the GST/HST credit on April 2, followed by the Ontario Trillium Benefit on April 10, the Canada Disability Benefit on April 16, the Canada Child Benefit on April 20, the Newfoundland and Labrador Disability Benefit on April 24, CPP and OAS on April 28, and the Veteran Disability Pension on April 29. In May, the schedule continues with the Ontario Trillium Benefit on May 8, the Canada Child Benefit on May 20, the Canada Disability Benefit on May 21, the Newfoundland and Labrador Disability Benefit on May 25, CPP and OAS together with the Alberta Child and Family Benefit on May 27, and the Veteran Disability Pension on May 28.
These dates do not mean everyone in Canada will receive a payment in both months. Each benefit has its own eligibility rules. Some are broad programs such as the CCB and GST/HST credit, while others depend on age, disability status, veteran status, or province of residence. That is why the real service value of this story is not just the list of dates, but helping readers understand which program actually applies to them.
One especially important point this spring is that the Canada Carbon Rebate is no longer part of the active 2026 payment schedule. The federal government ended the program for individuals, and there have been no further quarterly CCR payments after the April 2025 payment. That detail matters because some readers may still be expecting the rebate this year.
In practical terms, continued access to many of these payments still depends on filing taxes on time. The CRA says the deadline for most individuals to file their 2025 return is April 30, 2026, and delays can affect benefit and credit payments. Direct deposit also remains the fastest and most reliable way to receive funds without waiting for a mailed cheque.
