Limited seats from Beirut: Canada expands exit options as registrations and help requests climb

Global Affairs Canada says it has secured a limited number of seats on commercial flights departing Beirut, as Ottawa looks to broaden exit options for Canadians and permanent residents in Lebanon amid regional disruptions to air travel.
Media updates citing Global Affairs say about 103,800 Canadians and permanent residents in the Gulf region were registered through the Registration of Canadians Abroad service as of Tuesday morning. The reports note registration is voluntary, meaning the actual number could be higher.
In the broader regional picture, Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand said more than 2,000 people have requested assistance to leave multiple countries in the Middle East. Reports say Ottawa’s efforts include limited commercial seats, charter flights from select locations where conditions allow, and specific overland options in certain areas.
At the same time, the government has emphasized, according to those reports, that it is not announcing wide-scale, government-assisted departures from the region at this stage, and is urging travellers to plan independently and cover their own onward costs and arrangements.
