Canada Post workers begin voting on five year labour deals

Canada Post workers began voting on Monday, April 20, 2026, on five year labour agreements in a major step in one of the country’s most closely watched labour files. The vote covers about 55,000 employees represented by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and will continue until May 30.
The process follows the finalization of tentative agreements for the Urban and Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier bargaining units. Canada Post said the parties had first reached tentative deals in December and later completed the remaining contractual language needed to move to ratification.
The vote is significant because it comes after a prolonged period of labour tension over wages, structural changes and the future of the postal service. During the ratification process, the two sides agreed not to engage in strike or lockout activity, creating a temporary period of stability while workers decide whether to approve the deals.
