Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ontario Premier Doug Ford are expected to unveil new support measures Wednesday for steelmakers and automakers affected by U.S. tariffs, as Ottawa and the province seek to protect manufacturing jobs.
The two leaders are scheduled to meet on Parliament Hill at 1:30 p.m., ahead of a 2 p.m. joint announcement. Finance ministers from both governments are also expected to attend, according to The Canadian Press.
The package could extend to the critical minerals industry, the news agency reported, citing a source familiar with the plans who was not authorized to speak publicly. Funding amounts, eligibility requirements and other details have yet to be released.
