Egypt Unearths Three Ancient Tombs with Five Mummies in Bahariya Oasis

An Egyptian archaeological mission has uncovered three tombs dating to different historical periods at the Sheikh Soby site in Bahariya Oasis, along with mummies, coffins and a collection of archaeological objects.
One of the discoveries is a sandstone-cut communal tomb believed to have belonged to a family of five. Archaeologists found five limestone coffins inside its burial chambers, each containing a mummy wrapped in linen. The burial arrangement is consistent with practices known from Egypt's Late Period at the site.
The other two tombs are believed to date to the Roman period. One follows a staircase-style design, while the third is a shaft tomb containing fragments of pottery coffins and a limestone coffin. Archaeologists also discovered a cylindrical pottery coffin whose lid features a sculpted human face.
The excavation also yielded pottery vessels, offering tables and small terracotta votive figurines, adding new evidence about the history and funerary traditions of Bahariya Oasis.
