Ontario Premier Doug Ford sought to ease political tensions with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, saying there is “no real crisis” between the two leaders and describing differing viewpoints as natural within “one political family.”
Ford’s remarks followed an informal meeting with Carney, during which both leaders signaled a desire to move past recent disagreements related to economic coordination and federal–provincial relations, including trade and broader policy alignment.
Ford said that disagreements should not be interpreted as conflict, stressing that debate and differing perspectives are part of normal democratic governance, particularly at a time when Canada faces complex domestic and international challenges.
Carney, for his part, emphasized the importance of cooperation between Ottawa and provincial governments, calling for a “Team Canada” approach to advance shared national objectives, safeguard economic stability, and strengthen Canada’s position amid global uncertainty.
Political observers say the exchange underscores an effort by both sides to contain disagreements and prevent escalation, especially as Canada navigates sensitive economic and trade-related files in the months ahead.
