GTA Could Get Two High-Speed Rail Stations

The Greater Toronto Area could receive a second station under Canada’s planned Alto high-speed rail network between Toronto and Quebec City.
Alto CEO Martin Imbleau said the Toronto area would “probably need a secondary station,” according to comments reported by The Canadian Press. No final decision has been made.
The proposed Alto network is expected to connect Toronto with major cities in Ontario and Quebec, including Peterborough, Ottawa, Montreal, Laval, Trois-Rivières and Quebec City, using electric trains on dedicated tracks.
A second station in the Greater Toronto Area could give suburban residents easier access to the service without requiring them to travel into downtown Toronto.
Previously released project details describe Alto as a roughly 1,000-kilometre rail corridor, with trains potentially reaching speeds of up to 300 kilometres per hour.
The location, cost and timeline for a possible second GTA station remain undecided as planning and studies continue.
