Toronto police have launched an investigation after evidence of gunfire was discovered near the United States Consulate in downtown Toronto early Monday morning. A white sedan was reportedly seen leaving the area shortly after the incident.
Police were called at approximately 4:45 a.m. following reports of a gunshot near the intersection of Armoury Street and University Avenue, an area that includes the U.S. Consulate and several government buildings.
Officers located evidence confirming that a firearm had been discharged outside the consulate building. No injuries were reported, and police have not announced any arrests.
Investigators said a white sedan was observed fleeing the area after the gunfire. No description of a suspect or the vehicle’s occupants had been released at the time of publication.
Police have not determined whether the U.S. Consulate was the intended target. It also remains unclear whether the shot was directed at a person, the consulate building or another property in the surrounding area.
Authorities are asking anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have surveillance or dashboard-camera footage, to contact Toronto police. Information may also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
The incident follows a separate shooting investigation in March 2026, when two suspects allegedly fired several rounds toward the entrance of the U.S. Consulate before leaving in a stolen vehicle. Police have not announced any confirmed connection between the two incidents.
