Canada's national para hockey team won its first International Para Hockey Cup title Saturday, defeating the United States 5-1 in Nymburk, Czechia.
Three goals in the opening seven minutes of the second period put Canada in control after a scoreless first. Auren Halbert, Branden Sison and Vincent Boily gave the Canadians a 3-0 lead before the Americans scored on the power play. James Dunn and Anton Jacobs-Webb completed the victory in the third period.
The championship game also marked a national milestone for Adam Dixon. The veteran played his 277th game for Canada, surpassing Hayley Wickenheiser's previous record of 276 national-team appearances.
The result reversed Canada's 5-3 loss to the Americans in the tournament opener. Canada followed that defeat with wins over the World Selects and host Czechia before beating the Czechs again in the semifinals.
