Health Canada recalls fabric roller blinds over child strangulation risk

Health Canada has issued a recall for fabric roller window blinds sold under the Interiors by Better Shade brand, saying the product does not comply with Canada’s corded window covering safety rules and may pose a strangulation hazard to young children.
The agency said the blinds include a continuous loop chain that could allow a child to become entangled or for the cord to wrap around a child’s neck. The recalled blinds were sold in multiple colours and fabrics and include an enclosed headrail, a plastic pull grip and a clear plastic chain cover.
According to the recall notice, 86 units were sold in Canada between December 2022 and December 2025. Interiors by Better Shade reported no incidents or injuries associated with the product as of Jan. 23.
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled blinds immediately and contact the company for a repair kit and further instructions. Health Canada also recommends cord-free window coverings in homes with young children.
