The man widely known in Arab media as “Lost Islam” has reunited with his biological family after a 43-year search, in a deeply emotional development that revived public attention around the real-life case that inspired the 2026 Ramadan series Hikayat Nargis. Published reports say DNA testing finally confirmed his identity, ending decades of uncertainty about his origins.
According to Egyptian media reports, Islam disappeared as an infant from Al-Shatby Hospital in Alexandria. Over the years, he continued searching for his real family and underwent dozens of DNA tests with families who believed he might be their missing child, until a final match linked him to his biological relatives.
Reports identified his birth name as Mohamed Milad Rizq Saleh and said he belongs to a large Libyan family. He reportedly said he would still keep the name “Islam,” the name he has lived with all his life, because it remains part of his personal identity and lived experience. Reports also said his parents are still alive and that he has 20 siblings.
The most powerful moment, according to Al Arabiya, was meeting his mother. He said that moment was the most emotionally intense of his life, as she embraced him through tears after more than four decades of separation. The story now stands not only as a family reunion, but as a striking example of how science can restore identity after a lifetime of loss.
