Iran Warns Neighbours Against Joining U.S. Economic Pressure, Threatens Oil Transit

Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, warned neighbouring countries against cooperating with the United States in economic measures targeting Tehran, saying Iran would view participation in what he described as an "economic war" as a hostile act.
Rezaei said Iran does not seek to widen the conflict, but warned that Tehran could respond against the interests of neighbouring countries if they take part in U.S. economic pressure. He added that Iran would not allow oil shipments to pass through the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz under such circumstances.
The comments come as Washington prepares additional sanctions against Iran, while tensions surrounding maritime traffic and energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz remain high.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy routes, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and international markets. Any prolonged disruption to shipping through the waterway could have significant consequences for global oil supplies and prices.
