Kuwait had also faced missile and drone attacks on Wednesday. The Foreign Ministry said several locations were targeted, including a residential complex where a drone caused a fire that emergency crews extinguished without reported injuries.
Kuwait's Foreign Ministry renewed its condemnation on Thursday, saying the repeated attacks posed a direct threat to the country's security and stability and to the safety of citizens and residents. It reaffirmed Kuwait's right to take measures to defend its territory, sovereignty and vital facilities.
The escalation has spread beyond Kuwait. Bahrain and Jordan said their air defense systems intercepted Iranian attacks on Wednesday, while Tehran said it had targeted U.S. assets in Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait and Iraq following American strikes on Iranian military sites.
Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi condemned the Iranian missile and drone attacks against Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, describing them as violations of sovereignty and direct threats to regional security and stability.
The crisis has also affected shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Arabia condemned Iran for targeting the Saudi tanker Sidr while it was crossing the strait, an attack that resulted in deaths among the vessel's crew. Riyadh also called for de-escalation and the protection of international navigation and global energy supplies.
Oil prices climbed to fresh six-week highs on Thursday as fears grew over possible disruptions to Gulf energy exports. Brent crude traded around $97 a barrel, while commercial shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remained significantly below recent averages.
