The Lebanese army on Thursday, April 16, 2026, warned residents against heading to certain towns and villages in the south or approaching areas where Israeli forces are present, urging civilians to follow military instructions and avoid uncoordinated movement near border areas as discussions over returning residents gather pace. It also warned of unexploded ordnance and suspicious objects in affected areas.
The warning comes at a highly sensitive moment, after announcements of a temporary ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, while uncertainty still surrounds implementation and the security situation on the ground in southern Lebanon. Reports also indicate that Israel plans to keep a military presence in parts of the south during this phase, increasing the risk to civilians near frontline areas.
