Eight people were injured, the state-run National News Agency reported, while civil defence said at least one injured person suffered a gunshot wound. Residents gathered at the site and fired into the air after the collapse, the report added.
The six-storey apartment building collapsed Sunday afternoon in Bab Tabbaneh, a poor neighbourhood where residents have long complained of government neglect and deteriorating infrastructure.
Nearby buildings were evacuated over structural concerns. Officials pledged to investigate the cause and pursue legal action against anyone found responsible
