More than 100 firefighters were deployed after a massive industrial fire broke out early Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at a privately operated waste processing facility in Toronto’s Etobicoke area, causing part of the building’s roof to collapse and forcing several nearby road closures.
The fire was reported at approximately 3:58 a.m. at the YORK1 Disco Transfer Station, located at 156 Disco Road. The blaze quickly escalated to a four-alarm response despite the activation of the building’s sprinkler system.
Toronto Fire Services said the flames were concentrated in a section of the facility containing combustible construction and insulation materials. Concerns about the structural stability of the building prompted crews to withdraw from the interior and continue fighting the fire from outside.
Authorities said the main body of the fire was later brought under control, while crews remained at the scene to extinguish hot spots and assess the extent of the damage. No injuries were reported among workers or emergency personnel, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Thick smoke reduced visibility along parts of Highway 427 during the morning before conditions gradually improved.
Police closed Disco Road between Carlingview Drive and Highway 427, while Attwell Drive was also fully closed. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
The site is operated as a private waste transfer and processing facility serving the Etobicoke area.
