The Ottawa Palestinian Festival concluded on Sunday, August 23, after three days of cultural, artistic and family programming at the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne Park, bringing Palestinian heritage to audiences in Canada's capital following an opening ceremony marked by diplomatic and government participation.

The opening ceremony, attended and covered by Tawasul News, brought together H.E. Feda Abdelhady, Palestinian Ambassador to Canada; H.E. Souriya Otmani, Ambassador of Morocco; H.E. Amal Yahya Almoalimi, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia; H.E. Sabah Nizar Rashid Al Rafie, Ambassador of Jordan; H.E. Tariq Ali Faraj Al-Ansari, Ambassador of Qatar; H.E. Muhsin Syihab, Ambassador of Indonesia; and H.E. Can Dizdar, Ambassador of Türkiye to Canada. Diplomats and representatives from other missions, including a representative of the Egyptian Embassy, were also among the guests.

Canadian officials also took part in the opening, including Ottawa Centre MP Yasir Naqvi, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade and to the Secretary of State for International Development, and Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, both of whom delivered remarks during the event.

Symbolic gifts representing Palestinian heritage, including the Palestinian keffiyeh, were presented to dignitaries and guests during the opening ceremony, adding a cultural dimension to an evening that brought together diplomatic, government and community representatives.

Across the three-day festival, visitors experienced music, songs, traditional dabkeh and folkloric performances, fashion and Palestinian embroidery showcases, as well as cultural and entertainment activities for children. The program also featured the Jerusalem Bazaar, with artisans, clothing, gifts and cultural products, alongside Palestinian and Middle Eastern food vendors.

First launched in 2014, the Ottawa Palestinian Festival was created to celebrate and share Palestinian heritage with Canadians through food, music, folklore, arts and community experiences, while encouraging connections and building bridges within Canada's multicultural society.
