Border violence between Pakistan and Afghanistan flared up again after both sides exchanged heavy artillery and weapons fire, dealing a fresh blow to a short-lived pause in fighting. The renewed clashes underline how unstable the frontier remains.

Officials said the fighting hit locations in Afghanistan’s Kunar province and Pakistan’s bordering Bajur district. A spokesperson for Kabul’s authorities said Pakistani fire killed one person and injured 16 others, most of them women and children. Pakistan said it was responding to shelling from the Afghan side and denied deliberately targeting civilians.

The escalation comes only days after a temporary Eid ceasefire and highlights one of the most volatile fault lines in the Muslim world. Islamabad and Kabul continue to trade accusations over militant activity and cross-border attacks, keeping the crisis unresolved.
