Russian and Ukrainian negotiators opened a second round of peace talks in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday under a U.S.-brokered trilateral format, as diplomats try to push forward a political track to end the war that began in 2022.
Ukraine’s chief negotiator Rustem Umerov said the discussions include both joint sessions and separate working groups focused on specific issues, while Kyiv and Moscow trade accusations over continued strikes on infrastructure despite earlier U.S.-mediated understandings described as an energy truce.
Reuters reported the sides remain far apart on core demands, including territory and troop positioning, and the status of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, one of the most contentious items on the agenda.
The UAE said the talks are part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to advance a political process, following a first round held in late January.
