Taste of the Danforth Returns to Toronto After Three-Year Absence

Taste of the Danforth returns to Toronto’s Greektown from Friday, August 7, to Sunday, August 9, 2026, after a three-year absence, offering free admission, food, music, cultural performances and family activities.
The festival runs from 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday, noon to midnight on Saturday, and noon to 10 p.m. on Sunday, according to its official website.
The federal government announced funding of up to $100,000 through the Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Program to support the event, which it describes as Canada’s largest street festival.
That contribution follows a combined $400,000 from the City of Toronto and the Ontario government, with each providing $200,000. The announced public support therefore totals as much as $500,000. The city said the funding would help restore the festival while supporting local restaurants, retailers and tourism businesses.
The Greektown on the Danforth Business Improvement Area first launched the festival in 1993. It later became one of Toronto’s best-known summer events before recent editions were interrupted by financial and organizational challenges. The city describes the 2026 event as its first return in three years.
The weekend extends beyond Greek cuisine, with local restaurants and businesses participating alongside musical performances, cultural programming and children’s activities reflecting the Danforth’s multicultural character.
Visitors are encouraged to use public transit because of expected crowds and street restrictions, and to check current City of Toronto and TTC notices before travelling.
