Teen Surrenders to Police in Hamilton Double-Homicide Case

Police said the teenager surrendered on the evening of Sunday, August 2. He has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder with a firearm. All charges remain allegations and have not been proven in court.
The suspect’s identity is once again protected under Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act following his arrest. Police instructed the public and media organizations to remove all previously released identifying information and images of the teenager.
Emergency crews responded to reports of gunfire at a residence on Candlewood Drive at approximately 2:25 a.m. on July 29. Officers found 18-year-old Abdulmalek Shibli and 16-year-old Afef Binafif suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were taken to hospital, where they later died.
Police also arrested a 34-year-old woman and charged her with being an accessory after the fact to murder and obstructing police. Both accused individuals were scheduled to appear in court in Hamilton on Monday, August 3.
Investigators initially said at least six people had attended the Candlewood Drive address, where an exchange of gunfire reportedly occurred. Police later confirmed that only one real firearm was discharged and that the second weapon involved in the incident was an imitation firearm.
The investigation remains active, and police continue to seek witnesses and surveillance footage that could help establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
