Toronto held a solemn funeral on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, for Constable Marc Pinizzotto, the Toronto police officer killed in the line of duty earlier this month.
The service took place at the Toronto Congress Centre in Etobicoke, following a funeral procession from Thornhill. Thousands of police officers and emergency personnel took part in the official farewell, while uniformed officers lined the route to salute the fallen officer. Toronto Police said the service was not open to the general public, but was available through livestream and local television coverage.
Pinizzotto, 43, was a member of the Toronto Police Emergency Task Force. He was killed on June 11 while executing a search warrant in North York as part of an investigation into multiple shootings, including a March shooting at the U.S. Consulate in Toronto. He had served with Toronto Police for 18 years.
Family members, colleagues and officials remembered him as a devoted father, a respected officer and a man deeply committed to protecting others. Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow and Ontario Premier Doug Ford were among those present at the funeral.
The funeral became a moment of public mourning and solidarity, highlighting the risks faced by police and emergency workers across Ontario. For many in Toronto, the farewell was not only a tribute to one officer, but also a reminder of the human cost carried by those serving on the front lines.
