Trump threatens 100% tariffs on all Canadian imports over China trade track

U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 100% tariff on all Canadian goods entering the United States if Ottawa proceeds with a trade agreement with China, warning Beijing could use Canada as a "backdoor" to evade U.S. tariffs.
Reuters reported the threat comes amid a sharp escalation in Trump’s dispute with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, after Carney’s recent trip to China produced a limited reset on specific tariff disputes. Canadian officials have denied pursuing a comprehensive free trade agreement with Beijing.
U.S. media have linked the dispute to Canada-China measures that include Canada lowering duties on a capped number of Chinese-made electric vehicles, while China reduces tariffs on Canadian canola and selected agricultural exports.
Reuters also noted the feud has been fueled by broader political tensions following Carney’s World Economic Forum speech in Davos and related sovereignty and trade messaging
